SPECTRUM HOMESCHOOL COMMUNITY

Art Lesson Plans may 5th, 2011

Honorable mention to Bethany for overall creativity and use of line. Peer choice goes to Cameron for overall composition and balance in his drawing, Teachers choice goes to Nathan for the passion and energy of his drawing and overcoming challenges of a difficult interior perspective.
PRE CLASS: Did any one draw this last week? (Such as skill builders, long term, other).  What can they show the class?  Positive constructive peer reactions are encouraged.

WARM UPS: 1. Bubbles with the tip of the pencil. 2. Receding bars of shadow- giving effect of distance.  3. Cloud like swirls 4. Salvador Dali randomness unrelated objects tied together.

QUICK DRAW CHALLENGE:  Our quick draw challenge is a power drill- a common tool, it has a lot of large black & grey areas and should be challenging. Students have 5 minutes to draw it.

CLASS PROJECTS: 1. An interior drawing. We will draw the room we are in, or an adjoining area giving attention to the unique perspective of interiors, light and shadow and composition.

TAKE HOME SKILLBUILDERS: This week we have how to draw a squirrel, and how to draw a face of Robin Hood with a ¾ view. And a cartooning project called mushroom people. .

LONG TERM PROJECT: Continue to read the Book of Acts and illustrate each chapter. Keep these illustrations in a folder to mount later on. One illustration must be a person.

OUR INSPIRATION FOR TODAY: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2 NIV.  There are a lot of things to grab our attention and fill our thoughts. We need to filter them out and focus on the best and if we are truly born again our best is in heaven. If we keep our thoughts on what God wants, and desire to do the things that please him it will come out in all that we do, because our actions follow our hearts. If we have thoughts filled with junky stuff like about getting things or being angry or nurturing selfish thoughts it will spoil whatever we do. More importantly if we are in Christ our true lives are not of this world but we are members of a greater world and our lives here are not about us and our wants but serving God and others. No matter what your passion is if you take time to filter your thoughts by meditating on heavenly things you will have blessing in what you are doing that you would never have any other way.
