Art 2 Spectrum art class, 9/27

Art 2 9?27

WARM UPS
Warm ups will be drawing triangles that touch each other randomly. We will practice a texture using the "Cheek,"  (not the point but the side of the lead) of the pencil. First will be short curves then short dashes tightly together.

PERSPECTIVE
We will have a demonstration and illustration of the perspective of central vanishing point as in a road where the lines of the roadside come together at the horizon.

QUICK SKETCH CHALLENGE
We will sketch an item in five minutes to loosen up. The item this week is an old transistor radio.

DRAWING
Using charcoal We will draw a pair of binoculars, or a black bag.. These are dark and drawing a dark image while getting dark values presents unique challenges that we will practice, including lifting highlights and pre-sketching the values in the picture.

IF TIME ALLOWS
We will draw a fantasy creature. It will be a military theme: a warrior elf or goblin or troll.

LONG TERM PROJECT TO BE DONE AT HOME
We will begin our long term project for this quarter: a self portrait. This project will be done in several stages including several studies. This weeks study is to draw your face using only shadows no lines. On a large piece of paper (you may decide what is large) draw your face from a mirror or photo, shade in areas using different values of grey and black. I will have an example in class. Title the finished drawing, "Study #1 for a self portrait."

Students will choose a subject from pictures to compose their own project.

Email me if you have any questions.

Lesson Plans for Art 2, 9/20/12

Art 2 9/20/12

Inspiration: We will consider how important the ability to see and observe with an eye for detail is for a successful artist.

Warms ups and skill practice:
Triangles, trying to make each side straight and the triangles perfect, shading each in with charcoal.
Tornado shapes practicing gray values from light to dark in charcoal.
Random shapes like jigsaw puzzles but making sure each one is different.

Perspective of a cube with vanishing points and eye view center, low, and high. This exercise includes several drawings of a cube.

Drawing our own shoe practicing the aforementioned skill of observation, using charcoal media.

Drawing a lighthouse in media of student's choice.

At home this week: find two or three leaves and sketch them in a great detail as possible.

Missed lessons can be made up on Thursday nights at South Columbia Baptist Church where I have a class from 6:30PM to 8:30PM
