How to Draw Cone Flowers Art Lesson For Young Artist

This printable How to Draw Coneflowers worksheet will work for any of the daisy types of flower

Everybody loves the deep red and oranges of coneflowers.  They are easy to draw, and you can make some very real-looking drawings with a little practice.

My printable worksheets are free, and you may print as many as you like. I only ask that you consider making a small contribution to support my art if you can.

Free How To Draw Cone Flowers Worksheet

I  hope you are able to use my how-to-draw worksheet. You are welcome to print as many of my how-to-draw worksheets as you like. I only ask that you consider making a small donation to support my art. Thank you.

Start by lightly drawing an umbrella shape and putting a triangle on the top of that, don't forget the stem- they are thick.

Coneflowers have about 12 petals, so on one side, you only see about 7 or 8. Start drawing the petals that are in the middle. These are the ones closest to the viewer. Add petals on each side until you fill them in. You should have about 8 evenly spaced petals. The petals furthest around toward the back are only partly drawn because they are half-hidden by the ones in front.

Shade the seed cone in a crosshatch pattern to get the texture of the seeds.

Double shade the base and the shadow side of the cone. Shade the petals. Some will have shading at the tips and some along the edge; keep the light source in mind, so the shadows are consistent. The leaves are like wide blades of grass. Draw them on alternating sides of the stem; draw a few in front of the stem for interest.

Draw a few flowers like in a garden; they grow in clumps. Make the flowers in the foreground brighter and more detailed and the ones in the background duller and less detailed. You can try drawing a fence behind or a wall or barn or mountain in the background.

If you are using colors, take your time and find the orange/red of the petals. You may need to color the petals in layers with a layer of yellow underneath the red to get the salmon-red color right. Try using lavender for the warm shadows and cerulean blue for the cooler shadows. The stems are brown. You might add a dark blue for the shadow on the stems. The leaves are green but try adding yellow for the highlights and blue for the shadows. Add a  lot of green in the picture, especially in the background, and the coneflowers will look more brilliant.

End of School Year Thoughts.

Art Class is done for the year. As I reflect back on this last year of mentoring young artist I am overwhelmed with many feelings. I am humbled by the trust the parents and administration at Spectrum have placed in me. I am amazed at how much the young artist have improved in their work. I am sad that this adventure of teaching the foundations of art is over, (for a season). I am full of anticipation to see what great things the young artist will do in the future.  I am grateful for the privilege to serve our Lord by inspiring his children. I feel truly blessed to be able to have done this. I do not feel worthy to have been in the company of gifted teachers as those at spectrum.

I was told the class was an hour and I should spend an hour preparing for it, but my preparations went into many hours. The biggest was not designing lessons but the time praying for The Lord to be the instructor and to reveal to me what each child needed. I sought the Lord to be the author of the lessons, so any success in the Art Class is due to the Lord's grace rather than my skill. Still, I feel there were some opportunities that I missed and for those I am sorry.

An artist needs inspiration. I gave a meditation each week based on Godly Values that were intended to draw us toward the Greatest Artist- God our Creator. May the idea of bringing God into our art encourage us to bring him into all areas of our lives; and to see God is relevant in everything we do.

I know some are not returning to next year I will truly miss them and hope the life skills we talked about over sketchbooks will find application in notebooks and workbooks and all areas. I am excited about the possibilities for next year and hope to see many new and returning artist come to Spectrum.

OUR INSPIRATION FOR TODAY: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl instead they put it o it’s stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 NIV. As Christian artists we want to use art for The Lord. We need to find ways to be creative for God. There are many ways we can use our art, or whatever gifts we have, for the Lord. We can pick godly themes for our subjects, we can give testimony when our work is complemented, we can donate our art to worthy causes, we can create illustrations that will inspire and comfort people like greeting cards, posters, and framed art. Many Christian organizations use artist to help create brochures, advertisements, outreach material and gospel tracts. Pray and ask God to show you how to use your art.

Art Lesson Plans for May 12

Art Lesson Plans May 12, 2011

Honorable mention goes to Cinthia G for her drawing of tulups which she did for a greeting card.

PRE CLASS: Did any one draw during the last week? (Such as skill builders, long term, other).  What can they show the class?  Positive constructive peer reactions are encouraged.

WARM UPS: 1. Practice drawing cubes. 2. Clouds impressions. 3 lighting bolts. 4. Spotty texture.

CLASS PROJECTS: 1 Students selected their best works for the quarter and mounted them in basic mats for display at the family night.  Class was given a choice to sketch and a portrait of a person from the cover of a magazine. Giving  attention to the kinky hair and problems of wide  smiles in facial anatomy. Alternate project was to draw  a bowl of fruit the use of color was encouraged.

TAKE HOME SKILLBUILDERS: This week we have a practice in composing a landscape, and how to draw a baby dragon..

LONG TERM PROJECT: Continue to read the Book of Acts and illustrate each chapter. Keep these illustrations in a folder to mount later on. One illustration must be a person.

OUR INSPIRATION FOR TODAY: “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there , carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life you are a mist, that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it you boast and brag, all such boast is evil.” James 4 13-19 NIV. We not only need to be humble before God in our long term plans but also in immediate short term plans. As we begin our project we need to have the attitude that God’s will should be done for that project. It may not turn out the way we want it to but let us pray it turns out the way the Lord wants it to. His purpose for our project may be different than our purpose. Let the lord be in charge of your project and your day and your life it will be blessed.

Art Lesson Plans may 5th, 2011

SPECTRUM HOMESCHOOL COMMUNITY

Art Lesson Plans may 5th, 2011

Honorable mention to Bethany for overall creativity and use of line. Peer choice goes to Cameron for overall composition and balance in his drawing, Teachers choice goes to Nathan for the passion and energy of his drawing and overcoming challenges of a difficult interior perspective.
PRE CLASS: Did any one draw this last week? (Such as skill builders, long term, other).  What can they show the class?  Positive constructive peer reactions are encouraged.

WARM UPS: 1. Bubbles with the tip of the pencil. 2. Receding bars of shadow- giving effect of distance.  3. Cloud like swirls 4. Salvador Dali randomness unrelated objects tied together.

QUICK DRAW CHALLENGE:  Our quick draw challenge is a power drill- a common tool, it has a lot of large black & grey areas and should be challenging. Students have 5 minutes to draw it.

CLASS PROJECTS: 1. An interior drawing. We will draw the room we are in, or an adjoining area giving attention to the unique perspective of interiors, light and shadow and composition.

TAKE HOME SKILLBUILDERS: This week we have how to draw a squirrel, and how to draw a face of Robin Hood with a ¾ view. And a cartooning project called mushroom people. .

LONG TERM PROJECT: Continue to read the Book of Acts and illustrate each chapter. Keep these illustrations in a folder to mount later on. One illustration must be a person.

OUR INSPIRATION FOR TODAY: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2 NIV.  There are a lot of things to grab our attention and fill our thoughts. We need to filter them out and focus on the best and if we are truly born again our best is in heaven. If we keep our thoughts on what God wants, and desire to do the things that please him it will come out in all that we do, because our actions follow our hearts. If we have thoughts filled with junky stuff like about getting things or being angry or nurturing selfish thoughts it will spoil whatever we do. More importantly if we are in Christ our true lives are not of this world but we are members of a greater world and our lives here are not about us and our wants but serving God and others. No matter what your passion is if you take time to filter your thoughts by meditating on heavenly things you will have blessing in what you are doing that you would never have any other way.

How to Draw a Portrait of Robin Hood, a Lesson for a Young Artist.

How to draw Robin Hood.

This is a face that is slightly turned so you get to add a little interest in your picture.

When you start on this don' start with the hat or beard save those fun things for the end, and do the hair last so you don't get distracted.

Start simple, draw the oval of the face and the jaw line; since it is turned the jaw will be mostly sideways. Use a lightly drawn line up and down left of center to keep the face in proportion. Mark off the positions of the face like drawing a map of the project. The eyes are half way down and the nose is half way from the eyes to the chin, the mouth will be about half  way from the nose to the chin. The  ear should not be too far over or else he  will look too wide. The top of the ear is about the top of the eyes and the bottom of the ear is about on level with the nose.

Draw the circles for the eyes they will be just slightly closer together than a full face view. I gave him happy smiling eyes by making the shape of the eyes arch like like a rainbow with a little roll of wrinkle beneath them. The nose is just one long wavy line.

No need to draw the upper lip his mustache hides it. There are different ways to draw a beard I gave him a short one. A beard is a fun way to hid a chin. Add the hat last but make sure it is not just floating on the top of the head, the last thing I draw is the hair.

Don't forget the arrows that is how people know it is robin hood.

How to Draw a Squirrel Lesson for Young Artist.

How to Draw a Squirrel

This is an easy creature to draw and it turns out well in any medium.

Start with a a large circle for the body which will mostly be the back. Add another large circle for the rear legs and one for the shoulder. A smaller circle will do for the head and a smaller circle for the muzzle. Don't for get to add the triangles for the ears. The tail is a sweeping circle up and back in toward the head and then a second sweeping line from the back up and away from the head it should form a huge letter "S."  Add the arms and a circle for the upper paws and three triangles for the toes. connect the circles to form the basic shape of the squirrel and erase the unneeded lines. The eye is shaped like an human eye but the eyeball is just a black circle without any visible pupal or iris, do put in a shiny spot to show it is glistening. squirrels have knotty knuckles so don't worry about getting the hands and feet right. The tail is made up of sweeping lines up and away from the body. Squirrels are many colors from red to black to brown and even a few are white. Squirrels have white bellies and white inside their arms and legs.

Give him some nuts and berries so he won't get hungry!
